Scots women's football star Lee Alexander finds love match - with men's team kitman

Scotland's women’s footie star Lee Alexander has revealed she’s found her love match – with the men’s national team kitman.

The Glasgow City goalkeeper and her fiancé David Gibson, head kit manager for the Scotland men’s side, will marry next summer.

But before all that there’s the small matter of Scotland’s first appearance at the Women’s World Cup to come this week and the loved up couple, both 27, will be able to enjoy the experience together.

David will be joining Lee in France for their final two group games against Japan in Rennes on June 14 and Argentina in Paris, the city of love, on June 19.

Lee, whose side face England in Sunday’s Group D opener, said: “We are getting married next year, so it’s a big 12 months for us.

“It’s strange having him in camp but I just let him do what he has to do. That’s his job first and foremost but everyone gets on with him.

“He was a coach at Glasgow City so a lot of the girls have worked under him.

“They always say it’s either the physio room or the kit room that you go for the banter – but I don’t know about that with him.

“He’s essentially head kitman for the department but he always travels with the men. He was at the Euros with us, though, so he has experience of doing tournament football and will come along after the men’s qualifier against Belgium on Saturday.

“He will miss the first game against England, unfortunately, but he’ll then take over and work alongside us. It will be good to have his support.”

The couple have been together for almost four years, with David proposing in September.

The football fanatics have timed their big day in May next year perfectly, making sure it does not clash with Steve Clarke’s hopes of leading the men’s team out at the Euro 2020 Championships.

Lee, originally from East Kilbride, added: “We’ve had to try and move the wedding date around, so the men can qualify for Euro 2020.

“We are going to do it before the tournament [held in June]. So hopefully the guys will get there for that and David will be away with them.

“It’s been a busy time, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

As well as her partner, Lee will have the support of her mum and dad and elder sister Katie cheering her on during the biggest moments of her sporting career.

“The World Cup is like an achievement for everyone who has supported me along the way and I’m delighted they will be there with me,” she said.

“It’s something I wouldn’t have done without their support, so it will be nice to share it with them.”
