Young Edinburgh woman dies after beating anorexia as pals mourn 'beautiful friend'

Tributes have been paid to a young Scots woman with a 'heart of pure gold' after she died suddenly at the weekend.

Danielle King tragically passed away on Saturday, October 2, leaving loved ones devastated.

The 21-year-old, from Edinburgh, was described as an "absolute joy" to know as she always had a smile on her face and "never had a bad bone in her body".

Courageous and strong Danielle had recently had a difficult battle with anorexia, but relatives said she had made it through one of her 'darkest moments' and was in recovery.

Danielle's mum posted on Facebook paying tribute to her 'beautiful, strong and funny' daughter.

She wrote: "On Saturday 2nd October we got told something that every parent dreads, my beautiful, strong, funny, courageous baby girl Danielle unexpectedly passed away, to say myself, Sandy and Jordan are heartbroken is an understatement

"The pain that we are feeling is unexplainable, it's something no parent or brother should have to feel, we just feel so numb. Danielle will be missed so so much by all her family, she touched the hearts of so many people.

"Danielle was the strongest person I have ever met, she kicked anorexia's ass after all and she was so proud of herself for coming through one of her most darkest moments. We as a family were also so proud of her and we let her know it.

"She was so kind hearted, she never had a bad bone in her body, she always had a beautiful smile on her face and what can I say about her sense of humour, she was so funny and always wanted to make people laugh.

"Life is never going to be the same again without my baby girl in it."

Danielle's cousin has now set up a fundraising page to raise cash for a memorial garden where she can be beside her nana and grandad.

Any extra funds raised will be donated to the CAHMS eating disorders unit.

So far the £2,000 target has been smashed within 11 hours with an extra £650 being raised so far.

Part of the statement on the fundraising page read: "Danielle was an absolute joy to anyone that knew her, funny, beautiful, had a heart of pure gold and judging by all the heartfelt tributes, the most amazing friend.

"By far what sticks out for me the most and makes me proud beyond measure was her courage and determination.

"She fought her demons head on and after a significant battle with anorexia had managed to get herself to a place that she was healthy and enjoying life.

"I know that she knew just how proud every single one of us was of her."
