Scots woman who died at Airdrie home after 'serious assault' named as local mum

A woman who died after an alleged serious assault at an Airdrie home has been named locally as Catherine Stewart.

Emergency services raced to an incident on Torrance Avenue around 10.45am on Sunday.

A 54-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a 60-year-old man has been arrested.

Several police vehicles and officers were present on the North Lanarkshire street following the incident and enquiries into the alleged assault remain ongoing.

Catherine has been confirmed as the person who passed away at the Airdrie home.

She had beaten cancer and recently raised cash for Cancer Research UK on her birthday.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We were made aware of a woman who had allegedly been seriously assaulted within a property on Torrance Avenue, Airdrie, at around 10.45am on Sunday.

“The 54-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A 60-year-old man has been arrested. It is being treated as an isolated incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
