Scots woman reported lover to cops after discovering he was serial rapist

A woman reported her new lover to the police after discovering he was a serial rapist.

Charlene Gemmell was told last August by Robert Sinclair that he had spent time behind bars.

But, the 38 year-old "would not disclose" that he had been convicted for rape in 2001 and 2006.

Miss Gemmell searched Sinclair 's name on the internet which showed his horrific past.

Robert Sinclair appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court (Internet Unknown)

Sinclair was sentenced to 17 years in 2006 with the latter part of the term spent at home on license.

Miss Gemmell informed police that Sinclair had stayed in her house on “at least 12 separate occasions” between June and August last year.

Sinclair was put back behind bars after further enquiries were made by officers.

Sinclair pled guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to breaching his license terms by not informing authorities that he stayed at an address for more than seven nights over a 12 month period.

The pair met last January through a mutual friend before a motorcycle accident hospitalised Sinclair.

They became "more intimate" as Miss Gemmell visited Sinclair in hospital and was caring for his two cats.

Sinclair stayed the night on several occasions from last June when he told his new partner of his prison history.

Prosecutor Mark Allan said: "He would not disclose what he was convicted of" which prompted the internet search.

Sinclair was sentenced to 10 years in 2001 for rape with the last three years on license.

He breached the terms in 2005 by raping a 24-year-old prostitute on Glasgow's Clyde Walkway and was given 17 years in 2006.

Sinclair told police when he was arrested for the rape: "I was having a bad day. I wanted to do it. I thought it out before going out."

Sinclair won't face extended time behind bars for the license breach as Sheriff Alayne Swanson passed a four month concurrent sentence on him.

His release date for the rape is June 2023 but faces a parole hearing in August this year.

Michael O'Neill, defending, told the court Sinclair and Miss Gemmell's relationship will continue after his release from custody.
