Scots woman 'out of coma and opened eyes' after hotel balcony plunge in Croatia

A Scots holidaymaker has come out of a coma after a horror plunge from a hotel balcony in Croatia.

Jennifer Walsh suffered a bleed on the brain, two skull fractures and a punctured lung as well as a broken collar bone, broken ribs and a fractured wrist when she fell from the height on Saturday, October 2.

The 22-year-old from Edinburgh had been on holiday at the Dubrovnik resort with a friend.

We told how she was rushed to hospital after the accident for brain surgery to save her life and was put into an induced coma.

Now her sister Sara Walsh has announced that Jennifer has thankfully come out of her coma but asked for people to “send positivity” her sister’s way.

It is understood her parents flew out to Croatia and kept vigil by her hospital bedside.

She said: “Please continue to pray, send love and positivity my sisters way. This is just the start of your recovery Jen, I miss you so much. Keep fighting and showing us how strong you are.”

In the update, she wrote: “Jen is out of the coma, she is breathing on her own and has made little movements – arm, leg, opening eyes.

“She is still heavily sedated but this is a start.

“She has responded to my parents when they have visited her.

“The doctors have informed them that they are happy with the improvements but insist it is baby steps day by day.

“Again we would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for every share/ like/ donations/ prayers/ love to us.

“Please still keep praying for my sister as we wish her a full recovery, this takes time but we are with her every step of the way.

“The love we have received is amazing. I honestly have no words, I wish I could thank everyone individually for the love.

“Jen, I love you so much. Our fighter, keep fighting for us all. I can’t wait to be by your side soon.”

Sara previously told how “Myself and my parents were left in absolute shock, all devastated with this horrifying news not knowing what was going to happen to our Jen.”

Jennifer did not have travel insurance and a Go Fund Me page has been launched to help her family with the cost of the medical bills.

A staggering £36,000 has now been raised to support the family, including £100 from Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.
