Scots woman 'grabbed by the throat' at The 1975 Glasgow gig in unprovoked attack

A Glasgow woman has been left "scared to go to gigs" after a reveller grabbed her by the throat during The 1975's concert at the OVO Hydro.

Jodie France was enjoying the gig on Thursday night with her two best friends when she was attacked by a woman in the crowd.

The 24-year-old said she only managed to escape the assault by jumping onto her seat and climbing into the row behind.

Speaking to the Record, Jodie said: "I was terrified.

"When she grabbed my throat I didn't know what was going to happen next because we were close to the balcony edge. I was in shock."

Jodie, who works as a public servant, was not left with any physical injuries but was badly shaken by the attack.

"I've got tickets for Lewis Capaldi on Tuesday but now I don't even know if I will go. This has really frightened me," she said.

Jodie and her two friends were seated in the second row of the balcony but moved to the row in front when they realised ticket holders hadn't shown up.

She explained: "We left our bags and coats in our original seats behind us and moved into the front row. We spent the full concert there and were having a really good night."

Towards the end of the show, she spotted a man and woman standing in their original seats.

"Our belongings were still there so I went to collect them and realised she was standing on our coats. I told her I was going to move our things but she got right in my face.

"I couldn't hear what she was saying so I just brushed it off. I tried to lift a handbag from under the seat and she got right in my face again so I turned away to face the stage."

Jodie claims the woman then walked down to the row she was standing and seized her by the throat.

She continued: "She pushed past a couple of girls and my friend and then put her hands around my neck and pushed me back.

"I panicked and started shouting for help. I managed to jump on the seat and climbed to the row behind at which point someone pulled me up."

Security removed the woman from the show and took down her contact details after calling police to the venue. However the woman left the Hydro before police arrived, and it was discovered her details were false.

Jodie said: "Police arrived and the woman's details were passed over but they worked out quickly it was a false address and phone number."

Jodie has shared a public appeal online and hpes someone from the concert will come forward to help identify her attacker.

She added: "I'm really anxious to get to the bottom of it. I've already had someone reach out to say that they had an incident with the same woman at the concert, so I'm hoping the police can find her.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of an assault at the OVO Hydro, Glasgow around 10.55pm on Thursday, 19 January, 2023.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
