Scots woman fighting for life after car ploughs into two pedestrians in attempted murder

A woman is fighting for her life after she was struck by a car in Dumfries.

Police have launched an attempted murder probe after the horror incident happened in Whitesands, Dumfries, at around 8.15pm on Wednesday, May 12.

The 45-year-old woman was rushed to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with life-threatening injuries.

She remains in a critical condition.

A 26-year-old woman was also struck by the car but did not sustain any serious injuries.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police say their enquiries are ongoing and they are asking any witnesses to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "An investigation is under way following an attempted murder in Whitesands, Dumfries, on Wednesday, 12 May, 2021.


"Around 8.15pm, a 45-year-old woman was struck by a car on Whitesands. Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary with life-threatening injuries. She remains in a critical condition.

"A 26-year-old woman was also struck by the car but did not sustain any serious injuries.

"A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information or dash-cam footage that could assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 3169 of 12 May."
