Scots woman caught driving nine times the limit in what is thought to be record

A woman stopped by police while driving was found to be nearly nine times the alcohol limit – one of the UK’s highest readings ever recorded.

Kerry Jane Duncan, 42, gave a reading of 188mcg – thought to be a record for a woman – after her Ford Fiesta mounted a kerb at about 4pm. The limit is 22.

One driver had called the police after spotting Duncan driving erratically on King’s Cross Road in Dundee on October 15. She then mounted the kerb and came to a halt.

The motorist was so concerned they stopped in front of her to prevent her driving off again.

They noticed she had two flat tyres and tried to alert her to the problem before realising she was heavily intoxicated. There was a male passenger in the car. When police arrived, Duncan got out of the vehicle and was unsteady on her feet and smelling of alcohol.

Her eyes were bloodshot and her speech was slurred and she failed a roadside breath test which led to her being arrested and taken to Dundee police HQ. Duncan, who represented herself at the city’s sheriff court, admitted driving while more than eight times the limit.

Sentence was deferred.

She said: “I have nothing to hide. Everything about me in black and white is true.”

In 2010, a man in Coventry gave a record reading of 191mcg.
