A window cleaner caught driving his van while nearly five times over the alcohol limit was so drunk he wet himself.
Alan MacLeod was “unsteady” on his feet and “slurring” after being stopped by cops for driving erratically.
The 45-year-old pled guilty to a charge of drink driving when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.
He admitted driving in Nivensknowe Road in Loanhead, Midlothian, with 106 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
Fiscal depute Duncan MacKenzie said police were on mobile patrol at 7.05pm on October 10 last year.
He said the officers observed a Citreon Nemo pulling out from a junction and having a near-miss with another vehicle.
Mr MacKenzie said the van was being driven “erratically”.
The van was pulled over, the court heard, and MacLeod gave a positive breath test and was taken to St Leonards police station in Edinburgh.
The prosecutor said MacLeod admitted he’d been drinking and was “slurring his words” and “unsteady”. He added: “He repeatedly stated that he had urinated himself.”
Defence agent Philip Templeton, acting for MacLeod, said his client, a self-employed window cleaner, had been at a friend’s house.
Mr Templeton said MacLeod went home but realised he’d left behind his keys and got in his van to return for them.
The solicitor said: “Clearly his judgement was pretty clouded.”
Sheriff John Cook banned MacLeod, of Loanhead, from driving for 18 months and handed him a £500 fine.
