A whisky bottle-top manufacturer is facing a major fine after an employee's finger was mangled in a printing press.
United Closures and Plastics, part of the international Guala Closures Group, will be sentenced in September after it admitted at Falkirk Sheriff Court this week to safety failings.
United Closures and Plastics, based in Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire, tendered a plea of guilty to failing to have in place effective measures to prevent access to an "in-running nip" between two inking rollers on the press.
It admitted that as a consequence the right index finger of an employee, Stuart Rodger, was drawn into the nip, to his severe injury and permanent impairment.
Sheriff William Gilchist deferred sentence until September 6th, when the prosecution will outline the facts of the incident.
The firm's counsel, John Scullion QC, said he would reserve his plea in mitigation for the sentencing hearing.
