Scots wake up to snow as 'blizzard conditions' weather warning in place for country

Scots have woken up to a winter wonderland after ' blizzard conditions ' last night.

Stunning scenes have been spotted in Edinburgh and the Lothians after snow fell in parts of the country last night.

It comes as Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for Scotland as Storm Christoph was set to bring difficult weather conditions across the country.

Forecaster predicted 12 inches of snow to fall along with strong winds in the East and Southern regions of Scotland.

Heavy rain battered the central belt with flood alerts in place.

Scots are now bracing for further disruption as the Met Office weather warning has been extended until tomorrow at midnight.

Public transport is expected to be cancelled on delayed as temperatures plummet.

The Met Office said: "Rain increasingly turning to snow during Wednesday and overnight into Thursday may bring disruption.

"On Thursday heavy snow and strong winds will bring blizzard conditions in places leading to more disruption.

"Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers.

"Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.

"Some rural communities could become cut off.

"Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected."
