Scots TV weatherman Sean Batty warns dog owners about dangers of heat inside cars

TV weather man Sean Batty has warned drivers and dog owners about the dangerous and possibly fatal levels of heat inside their cars.

The STV star decided to do an experiment in Glasgow showing how much the temperature rises inside a car with closed windows on a sunny day after watching similar ones in America.

And he showed that temperatures can jump from 27C outside to 47C inside within just 30 minutes.

Sean revealed his results on Twitter and told followers: "It's going to be an absolute scorcher for us over the next couple of days.

"How hot does it actually get in cars on days like this?

"I have seen this experiment done in America, for example, where the forecaster gets in the car, sits there and live streams it and tells you how it feels but thats dangerous and we are warning you not to leave anything in the car."

Sean leaves a thermometer inside his car in full sunshine with the windows up and says he can read 27C outside.

Thirty minute later the temperature inside the car is 47 C.

Sean said: "With temperatures approaching maybe 30 degrees in some spots in the next few days, that means inside cars here in Scotland could possibly be reaching 50 degrees.

Fatal and dangerous. Don't leave anything in the car in this heat. It gets extremely dangerous in cars when you have high temperatures like this."

Following his advice one person said: “My hubby could hardly touch his steering wheel today it was roasting hot x."

Another said: "Thanks. That's brilliant advice. I always have the windows down and the air conditioning on full blast if my dogs in the car with me but I never realised how hot it could get."

And someone else agreed: "Absolutely. One thing to note..if you have a leather interior in the car DO NOT plonk yourself on the seat. Especially if wearing shorts or a skirt or a kilt (it’s wedding season after all),Keep something in the car to cover the seat."

Temperatures in Glasgow are set to hit a whopping 29C today for the hottest day of the year.
