Scots TUI rep stranded in Turkey after flights home disrupted by coronavirus lockdown

A travel rep is the latest Scot to be stranded abroad by the coronavirus lockdown.

Nicole Ravé, from Glasgow, has been left high and dry close to Marmaris, in Turkey.

The 25-year-old, who sells holidays for travel firm TUI, was stuck with pal, Kirsten Beck, when flights home were disrupted.

The pair are now holed-up in the Imperial Hotel, in Icmeler, with two other holidaymakers and have no idea when they will get home.

Last night Nicole’s frantic dad, David, said his daughter could be stuck in Turkey for months as the Covid-19 crisis worsens.

He told how Nicole arrived in Turkey on 13 March and was due home a week later just as the government’s sanctions kicked in.

Speaking from the family home, in Eastwood, he said: “We just want her home as soon as possible.

“They kept the hotel open for her and Kirsten and the two other guests but we don’t know how long that will last.

“Her Easyjet flight was cancelled and a replacement booked out within minutes leaving her stranded.

“She’s been told the next flight home is on 1st April but this is likely to be cancelled with the next flight leaving a month later.

“We’re all really worried about her and just want her home.

“We’re hoping Easyjet can put her on the priority list for its next flight out of Turkey - whenever that is.”

On Thursday it was announced that SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford had written to the UK Government on behalf of all his MPs, urging ministers to bring home Scots trapped abroad during the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier this week the Foreign Office urged British citizens to return home as soon as possible, but in many cases flights had already been cancelled and borders had been closed.

On Monday, prior to the UK’s current lockdown, The Foreign Office estimated around 1 million British citizens were abroad on holiday or business trips.
