Scots tot takes on stair climb challenge in memory of hillwalking grandad who died in Cairngorms tragedy

A Scots tot is climbing the stairs in her close every day for a month in memory of her hill walking grandfather she never got to meet.

Little Callie Murphy only learned to walk six months ago -but that's not stopping the one-year-old who's taking on a toddling charity challenge in March.

Callie's grandfather, Jim Robertson, went missing in the Cainrgorms Mountain Range while hill walking alone in early March 2016.

The 61-year-old's body was found in the Loch Etchachan area on May 12 after a relentless two-month search by dedicated volunteers.

It's believed the Glasgow dad-of-two suffered an accident on March 2, just two days before his 61st birthday on March 4.

Since his tragic death, Jim's family have tirelessly raised money for Mountain Rescue teams in the area.

With lockdown cancelling all fundraising events, adorable Callie has stepped up to the plate by hiking up the stairwell in her family's Glasgow close every day in March.

And mum, Lynn Robertson, couldn't be more proud.

The 32-year-old told the Record: "Every year we take part in fundraisers in March to mark my dad's birthday as well as his anniversary.

"Everything has been cancelled, but we still wanted to do something.

"Callie taking part is really special too as she never got to meet my dad and she would have been his first grandchild."

Egged on my primary teacher Lynn and doting dad, John Murphy, 30, Callie will toddle from the ground floor of their building in Battlefield up to the third floor for 31 days in a row.

Lynn launched a fundraising page on Wednesday which has already amassed over £500 in donations.

Money raised will go to Braemar Mountain Rescue, who helped with her dad's recovery mission, and to the Chris Lewis fund.

Keen hillwalker Chris Lewis is in intensive care being treated for life-changing injuries after an accident in the Lake District.

"Mountain Rescue volunteers are so selfless, caring and admirable in what they do, that's why we keep raising money for them," Lynn added.

Lynn Robertson described the search for her late dad Jim as 'horrific' (Handout)

"I heard Chris' story and wanted to do what I could to help.

"If Callie's small challenge can help just a little, then it's worth it."
