Douglas Ross has announced the birth of his second son, James.
The Scottish Conservatives leader shared a tweet today in which he revealed his wife Krystle was rushed from Moray, where the couple live, to hospital in Aberdeen in the early hours of this morning.
Baby James was born at 1.45am and both he and his mother are doing well, according to the MSP.
Ross had previously said his wife Krystle was “anxious” about being diverted from the local maternity unit in Moray, which was controversially given a “temporary” downgrade from a consultant-led ward three years ago.
In a tweet, Ross said: "Some added stress with a blue light Ambulance journey through to Aberdeen last night but thanks to the excellent teams at Dr Gray’s in Elgin and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, baby James was born at 1:45am. Both he and mum are doing great."
In a later statement, Ross said: “Krystle and I are over the moon to welcome James into the world as a little brother to our son Alistair.
“Our thanks go to the incredible teams at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin and at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for all their support during the birth.
“Both James and his mother are doing well back home following the excellent care we’ve received over the last couple of days.”
Ross has previously revealed how he made a mad dash from the House of Commons in 2019 to Elgin to be with his wife for the birth of their first son.
He took charge of the Scottish Conservatives in August last year following the resignation of Jackson Carlaw, and returned to Holyrood as an MSP following May's election.
