Scots Tory candidate suspended over alleged 'anti-Muslim language'

A Scottish Tory candidate has been suspended by the party after allegations of “anti- Muslim language”.

Flora Scarabello was selected to contest Glasgow Central, and will still appear on the ballot at the election on December 12.

It’s understood party chiefs were sent a recording of a private phone call involving Scarabello.

The contents sparked an immediate suspension and investigation.

A Tory spokesman said: “We take allegations like this extremely seriously.

“There is no place in the Scottish Conservatives for anti-Muslim language, or any other form of racial or religious discrimination.

“As such, we have immediately suspended the candidate and the complaint will be thoroughly investigated.”

The deadline for removing her as a candidate has passed, so she will be listed as a Scottish Conservative candidate but will not be supported by the party.

Scots Tory candidate Ryan Houghton was suspended in Aberdeen North earlier this month over alleged anti-Semitic, Islamophobic and homophobic comments made seven years ago.
