Scots Tik Tok-loving OAPs take on care home dance challenges to spread laughter and joy

Elderly residents at Scots care homes have been busting the myth that TikTok is just for the younger generation with a series of hilarious clips.

Staff across Balhousie Care Group, which oversees the operations of 26 homes across Scotland, have been teaching residents how to show off their moves on the app.

Residents have been throwing shapes to the likes of Dolly Parton and The Weeknd.

The regular dance routines have now become part of the Balhousie TikTok Challenge in a bid to lift the spirits of residents at the homes.

Officials at the care home group halted non-essential visits from the residents’ loved ones to prevent the spread of coronavirus in March.

But the mood remains high judging by the up-lifiting and often hilarious multiple-step dances that these fun-loving residents have produced.

They have well and truly proved that age is no barrier for the popular app.

Jill Kerr, Group Chief Executive Officer at Balhousie Care Group, said: “It is wonderful to see our residents joining in on the Balhousie TikTok Challenge which has brought so much laughter and joy across our care homes.

“They certainly prove that dancing is not just for the young. Over the past few months the work our staff have done to keep each other’s spirits up, as well as our residents, in such difficult times has been incredible.”
