Scots thug who battered partner with clothes airer and burst her nose dodges jail

A domestic abuser who attacked his female partner with a clothes airer has dodged jail.

Steven Fraser, 44, slapped his ex partner, 40, in the jaw and burst her nose with an open-handed blow - described as "a big swing".

Falkirk Sheriff Court he had earlier picked up the airer, pushing her and trapping her with it, then "laughed" and let her go.

He also put his hand over her mouth and part of her nose, restricting her breathing, and shoved her onto a bed.

She managed to get free, but as she got up from the bed he feigned to punch her.

The incidents occurred on June 1st (2020) after the couple began to argue at a flat that they then shared in Grangemouth, Stirlingshire.

Prosecutor Rachel Wallace said Ms White attended A&E and was found to have swelling and bruising to the left hand side of her jaw, a suspected broken nose, and mild concussion.

Fraser was arrested and told police, "I'm not proud of what I've done."

Fraser, of Grangemouth, pleaded guilty to assault causing injury.

Solicitor-advocate Stephen Biggam, defending, said: "The background was that she had confronted him about him embarrassing her in front of a neighbour, and matters deteriorated into an argument, then physical blows."

Sheriff Christopher Shead sentenced Fraser to carry out 225 hours unpaid work, placed him under social work supervision for 18 months, and imposed a non-harassment order to stay away from Ms White for two years.

He said: "This was a cowardly offence."
