Scots thief stole £150 of moisturiser from chemist and tried to sell to passing motorists

A thief who stole £150 worth of moisturiser from a corner chemist while waiting for his own prescription, then tried to sell his loot to passing motorists, has been jailed for 15 months.

Christopher Marshall, 27, shoplifted the beauty products from Lloyds Pharmacy in Camelon, Stirlingshire.

Police were called after he was spotted approaching cars in a nearby busy street offering the cosmetics for sale.

Michael Maguire, prosecuting, told Falkirk Sheriff Court: "He was in the premises about 9.50 am, and was approached by a staff member and asked if he required assistance.

"He gave his name and said he was there to collect a prescription. He was seen to have his hands full of moisturisers and other items of the kind.

"There was no prescription ready for him and he was told this and left."

Shortly after, police were contacted by someone who said there was "a man in Camelon approaching cars and showing the contents of a bag and attempting to sell the items inside".

Officers attended and searched Marshall and found the cosmetics, valued at £149, as well as a blue Stanley knife with a broken blade.

Marshall, of Denny, also Stirlingshire, pleaded guilty to theft and possessing a knife in the January 16th this year incident in Main Street, Camelon.

Solicitor Mark Fallon, defending, said: "For a young man he's got quite a bad record, and difficulties with drugs are at the centre of it."

Sheriff Derek Hamilton told Marshall he had "deplorable record for dishonesty", and had been released from a previous jail term only days before the incident.

He imposed a jail term of 10 months on the new offences, and also ordered Marshall to serve the unexpired five-month portion of his previous sentence, making total of 15 months.
