Scots theme park bosses to probe rollercoaster 'derailment' but say other attractions will remain open

Scots theme park bosses have vowed to probe a rollercoaster accident that left two kids hurt today.

Landmark Forest Adventure Park in Aviemore will remain open after the Runaway Timber Train ' came off the tracks ' this afternoon.

It comes after pictures and videos showed what appears to be a loose carriage hanging off the side of the rails.

Two children suffered injuries as a result of the 'derailment' and were treated at the scene.

All passengers were evacuated as mercy crews swarmed the scene at around 11.37am.

Park guests watched in horror as 'large objects' flew from the rides and screams broke out.

One eyewitness who was at the park with their children said: "We were standing by the queue facing it when it happened.

"We heard a loud bang then I seen a large size object flying down, looked like under carrige or wheel.

"Then I heard screaming as the rollercoaster kept going.

"We thought someone had fallen out and could see the end car was hanging down but still attached kind of, as it started to stop.

"We turned away as we scared it would come off the tracks into us.

"We walked away as didn’t want kids to see anymore, plus in shock.

"We had been talking with friends in the queue and they were actually saying it was sounding a bit rickety."

Park bosses have now issued a statement and say the park will continue to welcome customers as usual, but the faulty ride has been shut down for investigations.

A Landmark Forest Adventure Park spokesperson said: "We can confirm that there was an incident on the Runaway Timber Train today which resulted in the train coming to a halt on the track at ground level.

"All passengers were safely and immediately evacuated, but emergency services were deployed as a precautionary measure.

"No serious injuries have been reported and, as far as we’re aware, nobody has been taken to hospital.

"The rollercoaster will remain closed while a thorough investigation into the incident is carried out.

"The rest of the park remains open as normal."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.37am on Thursday August 12 to support a multi-agency response at the Landmark Adventure Park, Carrbridge.

"Operations Control mobilised a number of specialist resources to assist emergency service partners following reports of a rollercoaster derailment.

“Crews left the scene at 12.14pm.”

A Scottish Ambulance spokesperson said: “We received a call today at 1141 hours to attend an incident in Carrbridge, near Aviemore.

"We dispatched three ambulance crews, Basics GPs, The PICT team and our special operations team to the scene.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called out at half 11am to a report of a carriage on a rollercoaster suffering mechanical failure.

"Two children suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

"We remain on-scene at the moment and inquiries are continuing."
