Scots The Chase contestant scoops jackpot but viewers are furious with cheeky minus offer

Contestants on The Chase were lucky enough to take home the jackpot tonight, but many fans of the show were left reeling as one contestant opted to take the lower offer.

First up to take part in the cash builder on the ITV show was marketing assistant Patrick from Edinburgh, who works for Visit Scotland.

When asked by show host Bradley Walsh about what he does for a living, Patrick said: "I promote Scotland to the rest of the world!"

The 33-year-old was then asked if he liked haggis. He replied: "Yes! Vegetarian haggis, I had it at my wedding!

Bradley replied: "Did you wear a kilt?" Patrick smiled: "I did!"

Referring to the 'true Scotsman' myth, Bradley joked: "What did you wear underneath?"

And Patrick laughed: "Not a lot!"

Bradley went on to ask Patrick what he would do if he won money on the show and he replied: "My wife to the Alps for a snowboarding holiday."

Patrick managed to secure £8000 in the cash builder and today's chaser was Paul "The sinnerman" Sinha, who offered him £2000 and £28,000.

Patrick opted to go for what he had earned and brought back £8000.

Second contestant Afreena was sadly caught and didn't make it to the final chase.

Next up was Linda who managed to bring £7000 back to the team, bringing the jackpot so far to £15,000.

However, last player Brian scored £6000 in the cash builder but went for the lower offer of minus £3000 which brought the team down to £12,000.

And many fans of the show were furious at Brian's decision and took to Twitter to talk about it.

One penned: "Anyone who takes minus offers on #TheChase shouldn’t go on the show…"

Another added: "Omg who gets 6 then takes -3 #thechase."

While one penned: "Linda and Patrick deserve every penny they earned and £1,500 more. Brian is a joke. Imagine earning £6000 and taking £9000 less."

Another wrote: "-£3000 I’d be livid with him!! #TheChase."

While one seethed: "People on #TheChase who take the minus offer Get that nonsense in the bin."

The team went on to beat Paul in the final chase after getting 21 questions correct and securing quite a few pushbacks, meaning they took home £4000 each - which is half what Scot Patrick earned in his cash builder.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on STV.
