Scots teen needed surgery on hands after 'sword fighting' with pal using knives 'stolen from supermarket'

A Scots teen needed surgery on his hands after “sword fighting” with a pal using knives allegedly stolen from a supermarket.

Police raced to the busy Morrisons branch near Edinburgh’s West Granton Road on Monday afternoon after reports of a “stabbing incident.”

Officers shut off the entrance to the supermarket while the 14-year-old was rushed to a local medical facility for immediate treatment to his injuries, which were not life-threatening.

It’s understood the youngster was then transferred to hospital.

A police source said: “The boys were ‘toy fighting’ with knives allegedly taken from the supermarket. They were mucking about sword fighting when one of the boys sustained a sore one on the hand.

“We responded after several panicked calls from shoppers over a ‘stabbing.’

“The boy was needing surgery but his injuries are not that serious. They’ll also be spoken to by officers regarding their conduct and the allegations of theft.”

A witness added: “There was blood on the pavement so people started panicking it was much more serious than it was.

“It could have ended in real tragedy. Fourteen seems a bit old for play fighting.”
