Teen fighting for life after being hit by van while crossing Scots street

A young woman is in a 'critical' condition after being hit by a van while crossing a Scots road.

The 19-year-old was raced to hospital after the Renault Master vehicle hit her as she crossed Seafield Road in Ayr at around 4.10pm on Friday.

Cops were called to the scene near the street's junction with with Racecourse Road.

She was taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Ayr and then later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Hospital staff describe her condition as critical and say she is being treated for a head injury.

Inspector Greg Dinnie from the Divisional Road Policing Unit urged any witnesses to come forward.

He said: “The 19 year-old woman was crossing the road with her friend when she was struck by the van. This is a very busy junction and I would urge any witnesses to this crash, who have not yet spoken to police to contact us.

“I would also ask anyone driving on this road near this junction around the time of the crash who has dash-cam footage to contact us. Anyone with any information that may assist our ongoing investigation is asked to contact us through 101 quoting reference number 2159 of 5 March.”
