Scots teacher who watched family fight cancer plans 66-mile cycle to help other families

A mum of two whose father, mother and sister have survived cancer is getting on her bike to raise funds to fight the disease.

Clare Tayler will take on 66-mile Etape Loch Ness for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity that guided her family through their darkest days.

Science teacher Clare, of Kingswells, near Aberdeen, will join another 5600 riders on April 28 for the ride.

Girl, 8, who found mum collapsed uses FaceTime to save her life

She said: “Macmillan Cancer Support is an excellent charity and, as a family, we have really benefited from them.

“My mum in particular, when my dad was being treated for pancreatic cancer, found them so helpful.”

Clare, whose family hail from Lisburn, Northern Ireland, added: “Mum doesn’t think she’d have got through it without having the Macmillan team on the other end of the phone to talk to and always having the advice of someone who understands.”

Clare hopes to raise about £1200 for Team Macmillan – which has raised more than £1million in five years of being Etape Loch Ness’s charity partner.
