A Scots teacher who allegedly gave a ‘rubber penis’ Secret Santa gift to a colleague is set to appear before an education watchdog.
The unnamed school worker has been hauled in front of the General Teaching Council for Scotland after a string of sexual incidents in 2016 and 2017.
The three day hearing is set to take place next week where the teacher faces being struck off or reprimanded if the claims against them are found proved.
The teacher and the school at which they were employed have not yet been named.
The GTCS will hear claims that the school worker “gave a colleague a plastic or rubber penis as a ‘Secret Santa’ gift, which was opened by a colleague within the school setting.”
The worker is also accused of being involved in inappropriate sexual conduct with a fellow employee while on a school trip on June 14, 2017.
The charge states: “You did place your head on or near a colleague’s breast.
“Kiss a colleague’s breast and/or kiss her near to her breast. Touch a colleague’s breast with your hands”.
The acts are said to have taken place without the woman’s consent and within close proximity to nearby pupils.
A further charge claims that a further sexual incident took place the following day whilst still away on the excursion.
It states: “On 15 June, 2017, whilst employed as a teacher at School A and while on a school trip to Centre A, you did make a remark which included a sexual reference to a colleague whilst in the presence of pupils.”
The GTCS added: “And in light of the above it is alleged that your fitness to teach is impaired and you are unfit to teach.”
The hearing’s panel, who will hear the case remotely due to Covid-19 restrictions, will determine if the charges are proved and if they can remain in the profession.
