Scots taxi rank rammy leaves two people in hospital after ‘unprovoked attack' as cops hunt suspect

A police manhunt has been launched after two people were subjected to an ‘unprovoked attack’ near a taxi rank in Ayr.

A 54-year-old man and a woman, 30, were rushed to University Hospital Ayr for treatment after the incident on Smith Street on Saturday night.

Officers are appealing for help from the public to trace a man in connection with the assault, which reportedly took place at around 11.20pm.

He is described as being in his 20s, with dark hair and was wearing a short-sleeved grey top with dark trousers.

Both victims have since been discharged from hospital. Detective Constable Stuart McCulloch said: “Our enquiries into this assault, which appears to have been entirely unprovoked, are ongoing.

“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident to come forward if you haven’t already spoken to an officer.

“The incident happened near a taxi rank and a number of vehicles were around at the time so anyone who may have dashcam footage is urged to get in touch.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 4198 of 3 July, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
