Scots takeaway cheers up customer suffering 'reeking' lockdown depression with 'bad' joke

A Scots takeaway cheered up a customer suffering 'reeking depression' in lockdown with their 'bad' joke.

The Spice of Life in Hamilton have been praised for going above and beyond by delivering a punchline along with a customer's food.

Olivia Kell, 26, asked them to make her laugh as she struggled to cope with the Covid-19 lockdown and was 'missing social interaction'.

The fast food shop took on the challenge and manager Umar wrote out the joke on the order confirmation.

Despite being 'unfunny' the takeaway was praised for their efforts and putting a smile on Olivia's face.

The request read: "I know it's not much to order but i'm sitting myself reeking of depression.

"Could you be nice and write a joke or something on the order?"

Spice of Life wrote: "Knock knock... who's there... Spice... Spice who? .. Spice of your life."

Speaking to the Daily Record Olivia said: "I was feeling really down one night when ordering a snack and wrote in the comments section of just eat requesting a joke or something to cheer me up.

"It wasn’t funny but it sure made me smile that someone had put in the effort.

"They even responded to me on Facebook saying they will try better next time.

"I order from them a lot and I miss going into the takeaway store in person to get my order.

"I miss the social interaction that lockdown has taken away from us all.

"I think more companies should try to think of ways to engage with their customers like Spice of Life have ."

The Spice of Life said: "When we received Olivia's order we wanted to help cheer her up.

"We know lots of customers in our local community have struggled throughout lockdown and so we wanted to share a wee joke and make her smile.

"We're very happy it worked and cheered her up.'
