Scots street locked down by armed cops after two men injured during ‘serious assault’


A man has been left badly injured and a second hurt following reports of an assault on an Edinburgh street.

Emergency services were called to Bingham Medway shortly before 4pm on Wednesday after the alarm was raised.

A 31-year-old man was rushed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance with his injuries described as ‘serious’.

A 57-year-old, who was also hurt during the incident, was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Armed police were drafted in as officers locked down the street in front of shocked residents.

A picture from the scene shows at least seven police vehicles and an ambulance response car in attendance.

Police Scotland have confirmed they are investigating.

A force spokesperson said: “Around 3.55pm on Wednesday, 21 July, we received a report of a serious assault on Bingham Medway in Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended and two men were found to have suffered injuries. One of the men, aged 31, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment to serious injury, the other man, aged 57, was treated by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
