Scots street covered with junk after fly-tippers empty entire flat

A Scots street has been left covered with junk after an entire flat seems to have been fly-tipped onto the pavement.

Dozens of pieces of furniture were strewn across the front of a residence on Assembly Street in the Leith area of Edinburgh.

The scene included two sofas, an armchair, storage unit and what appeared to be a coffee table, according to Edinburgh Live.

Three divan beds piled on top of each other with accompanying mattresses, an old television and many smaller items were also seen.

It was all laid out next to the communal bins and spotted by Councillor Chas Booth shortly after 9.30am on Tuesday September 28.

He reported the incident to the Edinburgh City Council's street enforcement team and said the culprit's actions were "not acceptable."

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the Green councillor for Leith said: "It seems like a local resident has decided to set up their living room on the street.

"This is not acceptable at all - the council has a system for picking up bulky items and if residents are disabled or unable to lift furniture themselves then assisted uplifts are also available.

"I have asked the environment wardens to investigate this with a view to enforcement action, and to remove the flytipped materials as soon as possible."
