Scots stillborn memorial cleaned up by kind-hearted locals after sickening vandal attack

Kind-hearted locals have cleaned sickening graffiti was daubed on a memorial for stillborn babies at a Scots cemetery.

Police have launched a probe after the sick vandals wrote slogans like 'one less rat', 'covid hoax' and 'f**k yous' across various gravestones at Dunfermline Cemetery on the Fife town's Halbeath Road this morning.

A horrendous attack happened at the Snowdrop Memorial Garden for stillborn and neonatal deaths while other individual stones were also sprayed with white paint.

The incident has spread horror through the Fife community and now generous locals have now come forward and removed the hateful words.

Pictures posted on the popular Fife Jammer Locations Facebook page show the clean up job with local firm Drive-Revive driveway cleaners also helping out.

A message on the page read: "I know this is the third status about this, but I would personally like to thank every individual involved in the clean up, as well as Drive-Revive who helped so much with the cleaning..

"All these people came to help of their own accord, the sense of community and the way everyone pulls together is what makes this page worthwhile....

"Again big thanks to everyone involved in cleaning.."

Ronnie McDonald from Drive Revive said that they had spotted the desecration on social media.

He said: "I knew I had stuff to clean it up so I went out to the cemetery and there were already two people there.

"We went along and cleaned it all out over the baby section.

"There are just sick people out there.

"I just couldn’t just sit and not do anything to help and was very sad seeing people crying.

More vile messages were sprayed further down the graveyard (Fife Jammer Locations)

"Seeing it all cleaned off I've had people phoning me and crying over the phone thanking me, it's very humbling."

Outraged locals slammed the vandals online with many saying they had loved ones buried in the plots that were attacked.

One woman wrote: "Well done all involved , my father in law , mother in law and sister in law are all resting here and would have been heartbroken if this had happened to their headstone, absolutely disgusting thing to do."

Another woman added: "Big thank you to Gavin Henderson, for cleaning all the stones .

"Broke my heart to see this , this morning as my babies name is on this stone .

"Some nice people in this world."

A man added: "A massive thanks to all involved in cleaning up the vile mess left by some indescribable scum.

"It is good to see that there is such a community spirit in the town.

"That said, someone out there knows who did this and will be hiding them, we can only hope that the same people can have some level of morality and turn the culprits in. Sickening to see."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 10.05 am on Saturday, 1 May, 2021, police were contacted with regard to a vandalism at a baby memorial within Dunfermline Cemetery, Halbeath Road, Dunfermline.

"Officers have attended and the graffiti has been removed.

"Enquiries, which are at a very early stage, are continuing."
