Scots sledging horror as teenager impaled through bum cheek by wooden fence

A Scots teenager suffered horrific injuries in a sledging accident after being impaled by a chunk of wood through his bum cheek.

The 18-year-old was enjoying the snow at Afton Reservoir, East Ayrshire, with his pals when he suffered the shocking twist of fate.

The teen had been sledging down a steep hill in New Cumnock when he hit a fence and came off the sledge.

Upon impact, he was impaled by a section of wood through his lower back and bum cheek.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene after shocked witnesses desperately phoned for help.

An air ambulance was also flown in to assist the teenager.

Pals shared videos on Snapchat of the boy managing to stand up seconds after the incident, although in horrific pain.

He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock for treatment and it's believed he is in a stable condition.

Now the youngster's friends have headed to Facebook to warn others of the dangers of sledging.

One friend who witnessed the incident said: "I helped him down the hill made sure he was okay. I'm just posting to show the dangers of what happened at Glenafton. Just stay safe folks."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.55 pm on Friday, 8 January, 2021, police were called after a 18-year-old man was injured after striking a wooden object whilst sledging on Afton Reservoir, New Cumnock.

"He was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock for treatment."

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been approached for a comment.
