Scots singer Midge Ure tells of upset after someone tried to mug him in broad daylight

Ultravox singer Midge Ure has told of his upset after someone tried to mug him in broad daylight.

The Vienna singer and Live Aid co founder says a would-be crook attempted to snatch his mobile phone while he was out and about in central London on Thursday.

Ivor Novello and Grammy award winning Midge posted details of the incident on his Twitter account.

He said: "Someone on a bike tried to snatch my phone from my hand in central London yesterday. In broad daylight!"

He added: "Came out of nowhere on the pavement, made the grab, missed and knocked it out my hand then disappeared into the traffic.

"Desperate times. What’s the world come to?"

Fans were upset to hear the Cambuslang star, who just won a Scotland's Champions lifetime achievement award, had been targeted in this way.

One said: "Hope you are okay Midge. That's awful. This is why I keep my phone tucked away when I'm in the street. You never know who's about. Take care out there x"

Another added: "I’m sorry to hear that Midge, it must have really shaken you up. Hope you are ok, take care."

Midge later responded to the concern and referencing a James Bond quote said: "All good thanks. Not shaken, just stirred up! See what I did there?"

Midge joins other London celebrities who have been victim to such mugging attempts in recent times including Jenni Falconer and Judge Rinder.

Jenni said of her experience: "These boys on bikes came up to me, pushed me and grabbed my phone. I chased after them but I was never going to catch them on their bikes."

She got her phone back due to off duty police officers being on the scene.

Judge Rinder said that his phone was 'grabbed out of my hands by three boys wearing balaclavas' while he was out in London in March.
