Scots singer dodges jail after threatening to stab bar boss in drunken attack

Scots star Finley Quaye yesterday avoided jail after a drunken attack on a bar boss.

Edinburgh -born Quaye, 45, was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

The singer, best known for his album Maverick A Strike, punched Robert Jenei and threatened to stab him outside Troubadour bar, west London, on September 8.

He had been performing and drinking there throughout the evening.

Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard Quaye had asked Robert to search for a friend’s bag after the pair had left the venue at around 1.30am.

But after looking, Robert returned to find Quaye angry and making threats to security staff.

He was then punched in the face by the star.

The court heard Quaye kicked a BMW belonging to staff before shouting, “I will stab you lot in the kidney”, and, “I will stab you in the windpipe”.

When quizzed by police, Quaye said he had drunk a lot on an empty stomach and did not remember punching Robert.

He admitted assault at a hearing last week.

The court heard Quaye has a string of convictions dating back to 2012.

Judge Michael Snow said: “What makes this serious is the level of culpability involved – before the punch you made considerable threats that would have caused significant fear.”
