Scots singer Clare Grogan share throwback pic on 59th birthday

'Happy Birthday' singer Clare Grogan celebrated her own with a private throwback snap as her former admirer Spandau Ballet's Gary Kemp congratulated her.

The Altered Images singer and Gregory's Girl actress rose to fame with her famous song Happy Birthday which is sung regularly at birthday parties around the world.

The song which made made the band regulars on Top Of the Pops, has been covered by The Ting Tings, for the children's television show Yo Gabba Gabba! in 2008, by The Wedding Present, for their 1993 compilation album John Peel Sessions 1987-1990, and by Thomas Fagerlund (The Kissaway Trail) with Christian Hjelm (Figurines) for the Danish radio programme Det Elektriske Barometer (The Electric Barometer) in 2010.

All Saints singer Nicola Appleton recently used the song to wish Happy Birthday online to Spice Girl Emma Bunton.

A thrilled Claire who shared her birthday with St Paddy's Day, a global celebration of Irish culture, told fans: "It’s My birthday!!!! I got Older and everything."

She shared a photo from what looked to be in the eighties of her celebrating at home. The rock n roll pic showed Clare wearing pink shorts and a black top with her head back, swigging from a bottle alongside a table set with a meat and olive platter.

Amongst those who wished her a happy birthday was Gary Kemp who admitted he had a crush on Clare when he was younger and famously wrote the hit Spandau Ballet song True abut her.

Although their relationship at the tine was platonic, he had been infatuated by the Scots star and him wishing her a happy birthday is set to get tongues wagging again.

Gary wrote: "Happy birthday Clare!Xxx, " much to the delight of followers.

Promoter Donald MacLeod also told Clare: "HAPPY BURPADAY ON ST PADDYS DAY XX"

Fans joked: "Happy birthday. If only there was a song that could celebrate that fact..."
