Scots sheriff accused of sexually inappropriate behaviour sees case dropped

The case against a sheriff accused of using sexually inappropriate behaviour towards female colleagues has been dropped.

Aberdeen-based sheriff Jack Brown no longer faces criminal charges but will still appear before a judicial committee hearing.

Earlier this year, the Record revealed that detectives were probing claims involving Brown, 59.

Last November, a female prosecutor alleged the sheriff had behaved “inappropriately” with her.

Other complainers came forward. It is understood they held senior positions in the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.

A police probe was launched and Sheriff Brown was suspended.

But yesterday, the Crown Office said: “Crown Counsel instructed that there should be no criminal proceedings at this time.”

The committee hearing was put on hold until the police probe ended.

The Judiciary of Scotland said Brown remained suspended, adding: “Any conduct complaint would be dealt with thoroughly and on a confidential basis.”
