Scots share their favourite sandwich growing up - do you remember these classics?

Scots have taken a trip down memory lane and shared their favourite sandwich growing up.

Hundreds revealed what they loved to eat in a piece for lunch or dinner back in the day.

From treacle, egg or peanut butter to pickles and beef dripping, these forgotten fillings will take you on a nostalgia trip.

The discussion was first kicked off on Facebook group Scotland Forever Recipe where people took to the comments to reveal their preferred piece.

Starting off the conversation, one Scot wrote: "Mine was eggy in a cup on a piece".

Another person wrote: "My granny used to put butter and sugar on sandwiches when we went to visit.

"But my all-time favourite sandwich is good old Scottish cheddar and pickled beetroot".

Another agreed: "Piece n sugar and flung out a tap storey windae!"

Another Scot said: "Still to this day ham, cheese and pickle, or try an onion pie on a buttered roll".

Dozens took to the comments to say their favourite was a banana sandwich, with one individual writing: "Banana and brown sugar sandwiches.

Another agreed: "Banana pieces everyday at dinner time".

Corned beef was also favourite for lunch or dinner, and it appeared everyone had a special variation on the classic.

One Scot wrote: "Corn beef and onion butties every Friday night when watching movies."

Another commented: "Corn beef with cheese and onion crisps in it (preferably square shapers, but golden wonder would also work!)"

One person wrote: "Corned beef and tomatoes all mashed together, still love it today at 37."

Other favourites included lemon curd, condensed milk, a rhubarb piece or cheese and jam.

Beef dripping was another firm favourite, alongside a 'dookit piece'.

One Scot wrote: "The BEST piece of all was a dookit piece, dipping your plain bread in the stew pot while the stew was cooking and getting that lovely flavour soaking into your bread."

Another commented: "Piece n dook which was normally mince wi gravy fur tea. Loved it."

Other filling favourites were ham sandwiches on white bread, sugar and cinnamon, cheese and tomato ketchup or fairy bread - which is butter and sprinkles.

Scots also loved a piece and chips, treacle sandwiches, brown sauce or fish fingers.

Another favourite was a crisp sandwich, with everyone having their preferred flavour and sauce to go with it.

One Scot wrote: "Salt and vinegar crisps with salad cream and a heap of butter".

Another agreed and wrote: "Piece thick wi lurpak and cheese and onion crisps. Still love this."

One individual commented: "Had to be buttered bread with ready salted crisps add vinegar and tomato sauce."
