Scots sex offender in coronavirus prison rooftop protest lured down with pack of super noodles

A brutal sex offender was persuaded to halt a rooftop prison protest after he was bribed with a packet of biscuits and super noodles.

Serial offender Danny Welsh, 28, is serving a life sentence for repeatedly raping a woman after forcing her off a street in 2014.

The monster climbed a fence at HMP Glenochil, near Alloa, on Wednesday morning and remained on the roof for six hours.

He told prison bosses he was convinced he had coronavirus but wasn’t being taken seriously.

Due to tensions in prisons over potential unrest, a negotiating team and siege coordinator were sent to talk the beast down.

The incident is the latest in a series of protests since Scotland went into lockdown. An incident at Addiewell in West Lothian involved an officer being assaulted and serious damage done to a wing.

In another protest at Low Moss in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, two weeks ago, a con climbed a roof and demanded a KFC meal and a helicopter. Neither was granted.

A source said: “This guy was getting some fresh air and he decided he’d go up a fence to protest about having coronavirus.

“Prison officers could have gone up and dragged him down but that is against
strict protocols, so they had to watch as he sat there.

“They went through the motions of getting a negotiating team in and it was resolved in the end with a packet of biscuits and super noodles, although he’ll have to answer for the breach of discipline with a month in segregation.

"Welsh would have had the noodles in his own cell but due to the protest he’d have been taken to segregation.”

Welsh was jailed for life at the High Court in Glasgow in June 2014 after he admitted raping a 25-year-old woman in Aberdeen in February of that year.

The Scottish Prison Service confirmed the prisoner had been involved in a protest, adding: “A prisoner was persuaded to
come down after around six hours.”
