Scotland is set to be battered with thunder, lightening and torrential downpours this week just days after the scorching heatwave came to an end.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across most of Scotland from midday on Tuesday, with twice the normal amount of rain for the month of expected to lash down.
After a week of sweltering weather with the mercury rising to almost 30C in parts of the country, unsettled weather is looming - and it is likely to go on into next week.
Lightning and hail is expected to lash down over a 12-hour period, with the torrential downpours likely to cause flooding in some places.
Some 120mm of rain could fall in some locations, which is almost double the Met Office average July rainfall total for Scotland at 83.55.
The Met Office yellow weather warning for thunderstorms will impact Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, south-west Scotland, Lothian Borders and Strathclyde.
Another yellow weather warning for rain is in place for the same areas until Thursday, with 'heavy and persistent' downpours expedted.
The Met Office forecast reads: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across Scotland during Tuesday afternoon, lasting well into the evening in some places.
"This may cause localised flooding, especially if such totals occur over urban areas. Lightning and hail will pose additional hazards.
"Outbreaks of rain will spread across Scotland from the southwest during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
"This will become slow moving across the warning area through Wednesday, with heavy and persistent periods of rain leading to accumulations of 100-120 mm in some locations.
"The rain will ease on Wednesday night before clearing southward on Thursday morning."
It comes after a blistering heatwave ended in Scotland, with temperatures remaining in the high 20s for ore than a week.
Parts of Scotland were been put on red alert for drought during the recent heatwave as Scots headed to beauty spots to cool off.
Most of the country experienced 'tropical nights' when temperatures fail to dip below 20C, sparking sleepless nights for many.
And the next heatwave could even hit in August after the current one has ended, according to the Met Office.
Its medium to long range forecast for next month of the year sounds promising, with forecasters "warmer and drier" conditions.
The Met Office predicts that 'mid-august shows for some signal for warmer drier conditions in the forecast.'
