Scots set to bake in May bank holiday scorcher this weekend

Scots are set to bake in a bank holiday scorcher this weekend with temperatures expected to peak as high as 21C.

It is fair to say that the weather has not been on the side of Scots this year - with heavy rain, freezing temperatures and even some snow has dominated the forecasts in the past month.

But it looks like the season has finally turned a corner as the Met Office expecting a warm late May bank holiday weekend.

Rain is set to hit parts of the northwest or Friday before the warm sunshine breaks through the clouds.

The weather will remain mainly dry throughout the weekend, with a chance of cloud and showers to hit the northwest once again by the end of Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to to stay in the late teens and could even peak above 20C in some parts - with the north east seeing a high of 21C on Sunday afternoon.

On the forecast for Friday to Sunday, the Met Office says: “Early rain in the northwest on Friday, then mainly dry with spells of warm sunshine.

“Cloud and rain in the far northwest by the end of Sunday.”

But the good weather could be short lived as forecasters warn that high pressure could lead to outbreaks of rain coming in from the northwest on Monday.

Experts at the Met Office says that the showers could become heavy in the middle of the week with a risk of thunderstorms in some parts of the UK.

The UK is reportedly on course to record the wettest May since records began 180 years ago.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “The greater chance of settled weather. comes after one of - if not the - wettest Mays on record.

“It's also extremely likely to be the first spring on record with the maximum temperature in March – yes, March.”
