Scots serial killer Dennis Nilsen memorabilia flogged on eBay as collectors cash in on chilling ITV drama

EBay sellers are cashing in on the success of chilling ITV drama 'Des' by selling items related to infamous Scots serial killer Dennis Nilsen.

A range of creepy and bizarre items claiming to be original artifacts, including a 2016 prison letter from the Aberdeenshire-born killer, have been posted for sale on the site.

A £300 artwork showing the monster wearing a gold chain with the number 15 - his tally of victims – is up for sale.

Another seller has posted a variety of old black-and-white photos ranging from a picture of Nilsen’s dog to images of him being led out a police van on the day he was sent to prison.

The latest item claims to be a “rare Dennis Nilsen letter”, written by the murderer from behind the bars of Sutton Prison in 2016.

In the letter, signed by ‘Des Nilsen’, it states he had “regular correspondents outside of prison and this, among other things, keeps me busy”.

The letter goes on to read: “Prison life is not designed to treat anybody well as one has to look out for one’s self in a totally hostile/indifferent environment.”

Later it reads: “the ‘thrawn’ and stubborn gene in all Scots can find it easier not to let the b******s grind you down”.

The letter states that ‘Des’ kept himself occupied with reading and writing while in prison, and complains that there is no Christmas celebrations behind bars.

It says: “If Santa came down the chimney here he would get mugged or thrown into a strip cell”.

An image of Nilsen being led from a police van is selling for £7.99.

Another of his former dog ‘Bleep’ is also available from the same seller.

A write-up says: “Dennis Nilsen’s mongrel ‘Bleep’ blind in one eye, which was being looked after at Battersea Dogs Home in London.”

Newspaper clippings from the time of the murders are also available to bid on.

Seller 'clinkjangle' who is flogging the £300 Des Nilsen artwork told the Daily Record: "I've been in to serial killers for years and others not just Des.

"I have had this for sale for a while before the programme.

"I have loads of stuff and very rare stuff as well - maybe the only ones left."

Most of the items were posted as David Tennant took on the role of the Fraserburgh- born murderer in the new ITV drama ‘Des’.

The three-part drama aired last month.

It told the inside story of how Nilsen killed 15 men between 1978 to 1983 at two London homes and was convicted of six murders.

He died in jail in 2018, aged 72.

The Daily Record has contacted the other eBay sellers for comment.
