One of the country's leading scientists has admitted downloading a stash of child abuse images at his £650,000 home.
Dr Paul Andrews, whose work on a male contraceptive was funded by Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, is one of the country's leading biochemists.
However, his reputation and career are in tatters after he was discovered with sickening child porn images at his family home in Broughty Ferry, near Dundee.
Andrews pled guilty to taking or permitting to be taken indecent images or pseudo images of children in Seafield Road between 8 and 11 November 2019.
Andrews, 54, was the Director of Operations at the National Phenotypic Screening Centre in Dundee when his home was raided by police acting on information.
It is understood Andrews was removed from his Dundee University -based position after his arrest and initial court appearance last year.
He had been involved in groundbreaking research into development of the world's first male contraceptive pill, funded by a £900,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Solicitor Mark Harrower, defending, said he would reserve his plea in mitigation until Andrews returns to Dundee Sheriff Court to be sentenced next month.
Sheriff Neil Bowie deferred sentence for the preparation of social work reports and Andrews details were added to the sex offenders register.
As part of his continued bail release, he is banned from having a mobile phone or computer without giving the serial number to the police.
He is also banned from having any other internet-enabled device, or using a phone number or email address without the say so of the police.
Andrews, a graduate of Sheffield University, is barred from using any device unless it shows its search history, and from using software to disguise or delete the search history.
He is obliged to allow the police to view his internet search history and has been banned from unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 16.
The biochemist has carried out research into diabetes cell therapy and set up his own company specialising in the field of stem cell research.
Since 2013 he has been working with the Scottish Universities Life Science Alliance, and is Director of the NPSC which is backed by Dundee, Edinburgh and Oxford Universities.
