A Scots schoolgirl who had her music played in the House of Commons is set to release a charity single she penned when her cousin was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
Mayah Herlihy wrote the song titled Your Fight when her cousin, Mel Welsh, was told she had cancer aged just 19-years-old in 2019.
The 14-year-old Brannock High School pupil has now decided to release the song and donate all proceeds to the Beatson Cancer Charity now that Mel is in remission.
Mayah, who lives in Motherwell, has already released two singles and was shocked to learn one fan was blasting her tunes in the House of Commons.
The youngster recently received a letter from Glasgow MP David Linden who confessed her had been playing her music during meetings.
Mayah said: "I first wrote Your Fight in 2019 for my cousin Mel who got diagnosed with Leukaemia.
"I wanted it to be a sign of hope and to help her understand we're all going to be there for her. Thankfully, she's been in remission for one year now and I thought it was a good time to release it.
"I wanted all of the proceeds to go to a good cause and not just me. All of the money will go to the Beatson Cancer Charity.
"I received a letter from David Linden and he said he was playing my music in the House of Commons during meetings.
"It was very exciting. It got delivered to my grandparents house and they were like oh what's this?"
David Linden MP said: “It had been a pretty tough day at work so I stuck on Spotify to check out Mayah’s music. It was absolutely fantastic and what a lift it was during difficult times!
“I knew that Mayah’s grandparents lived in Mount Vernon in my constituency, so I thought I would drop them a wee note to say how much I enjoyed her music.
"Mayah is a wonderfully talented young musician who I’m sure will go on to have a successful career and her charity work is highly commendable."
The teenage singing sensation is also the youngest musician to be signed to her label Main Street Record and her first hit single On My Way went to number one in the UK country charts in January.
The youngster has now been focusing her efforts on fundraising for the Beatson Cancer Charity but is looking forward to brighter days ahead when she can perform live again as she works on her album.
Mum Joanne added: "Mayah, she knows what she wants to do - she's very dedicated and she knew she wanted to raise funds for the Beatson.
"Me and her dad are just so proud of her."
Your Fight will be released on Friday and is available to download on Spotify or Itunes.
