A nine-year-old schoolgirl who tragically lost her dad in November has fundraised hundreds of pounds to build a lasting legacy for him.
Belle Jackson from Glenrothes has focused her efforts on installing a memorial bench in Coaltown of Balgonie in Fife for her dad Greig as a place that holds many happy memories of their time together.
Her gesture has captured the hearts of so many in the local community that she now wants to donate to charities helping bereaved children just like her with the extra funds.
She told the Record: "I'm really happy to be able to do this for my dad and his family and friends.
"It's all coming to life now.
"I have happy memories of him, we loved having a laugh together and we always used to like buying sweeties together."
Greig was just 34 when he suddenly passed away in November.
A memorial bench has been approved for the grass area near the opening of John Ross Place in his beloved "Coaltown" village.
Just under £2,000 has been raised for the bench - double the intended target - and Belle has pledged to walk five miles in April setting off from the memorial spot.
Belle's mum Leah Gray said: "This has been something positive for Belle out of a terrible situation.
"It was just a really simple idea of hers and we raised the money for the bench within three hours and the money just keeps coming.
"We have spoken as a family about what we would like to do with the donations and we want it to help children who are in the same situation as Belle.
"We have not looked for support yet from charities but it is still early days so this money will go to locally bereaved children.
"It's been extremely tough for Belle, but even with what's she is going through she has not lost her sparkle or enthusiasm for life.
"She's absolutely delighted to do this for her dad, herself, family and friends, to have lasting memories of him."
