Scots schoolgirl hurt during terrifying street robbery bid as police manhunt launched to find ‘tall’ attacker

A young schoolgirl has been left injured and badly shaken after a man tried to rob her in a Monifieth street.

The 14-year-old was walking near the Nisa store on Ferry Road at around 9pm on Wednesday, February 24, when she was struck from behind.

The man attempted to steal her property but fled the scene empty-handed in the direction of the town centre.

Police are appealing for help to find the suspect who is described as tall and who was wearing a black hooded jacket.

Detective Constable Esther Bigham, from Tayside CID, said: “This was an extremely distressing situation for the girl involved and we can only be thankful that she was not more seriously injured.

“We’re asking for anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious to please come forward and assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101, quoting incident 3364 of 24 February. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.
