Scots schoolgirl, 11, missing from Galashiels as desperate family search through the night

Police are searching for a schoolgirl who vanished after leaving her friend's house in Galashiels on Sunday.

Kaitlyn Easson, 11, has been reported missing after she was last seen at 5.30pm. Kaitlyn lives in the Langlee area of Galashiels and was last seen in the Gala Park area.

Her desperate family have been out searching in the town through the night and there are significant concerns for her welfare. Kaitlyn is described as 5’2” or shorter, long blonde hair, slim build, wearing a white jumper, brown trousers and clumpy boots.

Family friend Nicola Forrest raised the alarm on social media on Sunday night.

In a post on Facebook she said: "This is Kaitlyn Easson, missing from Galashields, police out looking, last seen Scott Street, Meigle Street and Riddle Dunble area at 2pm.

"Left her friends at half 5, please share. Worried sick. She's only just turned 11. Her mum is my best friend and worried sick."

In later posts this morning Nicola added: "Searched all of Gala, police have sent dogs into the water, still searching.

"Kaitlyn was last seen at Starbucks at 6.15pm, this was confirmed by CCTV, She has not been seen since. Please help, Kaitlyn, come home."

"9am, still no update, I appreciate everyone who's messaged me, please believe the police have checked everything so far, she hasn't got on a train, her phone is off, location off on Snapchat, police and family out looking. Will update more as I get more info."

Enquiries are ongoing to trace Kaitlyn with officers in the local area.

Inspector Robbie Noble said: “This is very out of character for Kaitlyn and we are growing increasingly concerned for her.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to trace her and I am appealing for anyone who has seen Kaitlyn or who has any information on her whereabouts to contact us.

“We would also appeal to Kaitlyn herself to get in touch to let us know she is safe.”

Anyone who may have seen Kaitlyn, or who has any information on her whereabouts, is urged to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 3314 of February 5.
