Scots schoolboy wins compo payout after lamppost collapsed on him

A schoolboy who was seriously injured when a lamppost collapsed on him has been awarded a four-figure compensation payout.

The boy – aged 10 at the time of the accident – was out for a meal with his family when disaster struck.

He was chasing his sister outside the Home Farm View pub and restaurant in Kirkcaldy on Mother’s Day last year when the lamppost snapped and collapsed on his leg.

The victim’s father said: “There were lampposts just outside the restaurant. My son and daughter were outside playing. As they passed each other, the lamppost my daughter went around just collapsed and landed on my son.

“It was terrifying. It trapped him and the only reason I managed to lift it off him was pure adrenalin. It took three people from the
restaurant to be able to move the lamppost. We were lucky the situation wasn’t much worse.”

Aimee Elder, of Watermans Solicitors, said: “I’m delighted that we were successful in recovering compensation for our client and his son.”

A Home Farm View spokesman said: “We are relieved the young boy has recovered and send him our very best wishes. We accepted liability and sought to resolve this legal claim as soon as possible to minimise any further distress.”
