Scots schoolboy gets birthday surprise from cops after he was forced to cancel party

Kind-hearted cops have spread some birthday cheer after an Edinburgh schoolboy was forced to cancel his birthday party.

The youngster, known only as Alex, was surprised with a convoy of police vehicles during his daily exercise in the north east of the city .

Leading the way, two marked police bikes quickly grabbed the attention of passersby, including the primary school pupil, who was due to celebrate his 8th birthday.

With sirens blaring and the blue lights flashing, the fleet drives past with a hand-drawn sign stuck to the side of a police transit van.
