Scots school evacuated after 'phone call threat' as police search building

Armed police descended on a Scots school following a "threatening phone call" which saw the building evacuated.

The threat was made to St John's Academy in Perth towards the end of the school day yesterday.

Emergency crews raced to Gowans Terrace just after 4pm.

The school was evacuated while police, who according to local press were armed, searched the site.

On Tuesday morning, copse confirmed the incident to the Daily Record and stressed that, following the search, there was "no risk to the school or public".

A probe is now underway to trace whoever made the call.

Police did not disclose what threat was made during the call.

A spokeswoman from the force said:"At around 4.10 pm on Monday, April 25 police were called after a threatening phone call has been made to St John Academy, Gowans Terrace, Perth.

"The school was evacuated and following a search of the premises it was established that there was no risk to the school or public.

"Enquiries are ongoing in to the origin of the call."
