A Scots school has been accused of treating children 'like trash' after telling them to bring in bin bags to sit on.
Nairn Academy in Invernesshire sent a message to parents and pupils via its Facebook page asking for mats or bin bags to be brought in to sit on for outdoor 'wellness' sessions.
S1-S3 kids at the academy were told they need to have “warm clothes, suitable footwear for outside, water bottle, face covering, notepad and pencil as well as a mat/bin bag to sit on”.
But parent campaigners blasted the request saying the school was treating children as 'an afterthought'.
Jo Bisset, of parents group UsForThem Scotland, the bin bag request was “anything but the normal schooling experience parents are demanding”.
She told The Sun: “Children have been treated like trash since the start of the pandemic - this illustrates that perfectly.
“It’s time schools treated children like the valuable individuals they are, rather than a threat and an afterthought.”
Education bosses at Highland Council defended the bin bag request saying it was a means to prevent pupils getting wet.
A Highland spokesperson said: “The school requested pupils to bring a mat or bin bag to the wellbeing sessions to prevent them from getting wet if they needed to sit down when outside.
"It was a great day for the school and its pupils as they spent time connecting during a range of outdoor activities.”
