Scots restaurant hits out at 'hissy fit' Trip Advisor review from tourist who did not even eat there

A Scots restaurant has hit out a 'hissy fit' Trip Advisor review from a tourist who did not even eat there. The Ferry Inn, in Uig in the north of Skye, was left flabbergasted by the negative review from someone who could not reserve a table at the fully booked out restaurant.

Taking to Trip Advisor to air their frustration, the tourist left a two-star review, saying they didn't have a particular "great experience" after restaurant wasn't able to accommodate their party when they visited the isle.

After seeing the unreasonable review online, the family-run restaurant hit out calling the review a 'hissy fit' on Twitter.

Their post has now gone viral with thousands of people backing The Ferry Inn in the dispute.

The review in question was titled 'Disappointed by lack of booking facilities' and dated as May 2023.

It read: "Not particularly great experience, no availability for booking, nearest restaurant to where we are staying. Seems to be a lack of place to eat in Skye.

"We are Disappointed in local restaurants and their lack of availability for dinner bookings. This restaurant was on our list to visit, but sadly could not accommodate till well in to June, July."

The Ferry Inn is hugely popular with locals and visitors alike with a five-star rating on Trip Advisor. It's fully-booked for May and June with its website clearly stating that guests have to have reservation to dine there, with no walk in availability.

In a post the restaurant said: "So now anyone who can’t get a reservation with us is valid to leave us negative ‘reviews’? Scary stuff if this the road we’re going down because Skye is rammed until October. We book up months in advance. We explain everything in detail on our website and social media & on our outside signage.

"We have 4 tables a night, we’re a family of 4 running a small inn. We have no staff, we’re not running a mass operation. To have had this woman now write two reviews slamming us and the whole of Skye for her lack of forward planning is ludicrous.

"The worst part of this? (She) is still on the Island, sat in a holiday cottage up the road, abusing us online whilst we’re flat out and we have to spend our time dealing with her utter nonsense?

"If only (she) had spent this much time and effort researching her trip and booking restaurants - then none of us would be in this position…"

After the post went viral, The Ferry Inn conformed one of the reviews the woman posted had been removed. It wasn't clear if this was by her or Trip Advisor. They thanked everyone for their support.

They said: "Big thanks for all your support in the matter - it’s just a shame this has happened and happens to other businesses too, hospitality & otherwise!

"Just to reiterate, it’s not about receiving an unhinged bad review - it’s about the precedent it sets for more people to able to leave negative/ non reviews when they can’t get a table - not just for us but many other small businesses!"
